crater lake caldera lab is an organization dedicated to monitoring and investigating volcanoes. Based in Tokyo, we monitor volcanoes in Japan and other volcanoes in East and Southeast Asia.
CALDERA研究所は、火山の監視と調査を専門とする組織である。東京を拠点に、日本の火山や東アジア・東南アジアの火山を監視している。

VOLCANO
Japan is one of the most volcanic countries in the world, and its hot springs and scenic spots were created by volcanoes. Magma is still active deep beneath the Japanese archipelago, and we Japanese coexist with volcanoes without even realizing it.
Volcanoes have a close relationship with death. Once they erupt, they create hell all around them. It is a land of pyroclastic flows that can kill you instantly if you are caught in them, and invisible, demonic volcanic gases that take away your life.
The volcano also has various elements of death, such as fumaroles used for torture, throwing oneself into craters, forests formed on lava that become suicide spots, famine caused by eruptions, and hydrogen sulfide suicides that spread to urban areas.
日本は世界有数の火山国であり、温泉や景勝地は火山が作り出したものである。マグマは今も日本列島の地下深くで活動を続けており、私たち日本人は知らず知らずのうちに火山と共存している。
火山は死と密接な関係にある。ひとたび噴火すれば、周囲は地獄と化す。巻き込まれれば即死する火砕流や、命を奪う目に見えない悪魔のような火山ガスの国である。
拷問に使われる噴気孔、火口への身投げ、自殺の名所となる溶岩の上にできた森、噴火による飢饉、都市部まで広がる硫化水素自殺など、火山にはさまざまな死の要素もある。
일본은 세계 유수의 화산국이며, 온천과 경승지는 화산이 만들어낸 것이다. 마그마는 지금도 일본 열도의 지하 깊은 곳에서 활동을 계속하고 있으며, 우리 일본인은 부지불식간에 화산과 공존하고 있다.
화산은 죽음과 밀접한 관계에 있다. 한번 폭발하면 주위는 지옥으로 변한다. 휘말리면 즉사하는 화쇄류나 목숨을 앗아가는 보이지 않는 악마 같은 화산가스의 나라다.
고문에 쓰이는 분기공, 화구에 투신, 자살의 명소가 되는 용암 위에 생긴 숲, 분화로 인한 기근, 도시지역까지 퍼지는 황화수소 자살 등 화산에는 다양한 죽음의 요소도 있다.
